Join the Legacy Circle
In order to encourage membership in the HLF Legacy Circle Michele McKeegan and Ed Olsgard will generously donate $250 for every library supporter who designates a Planned Gift to the Humboldt Library Foundation before the end of 2011.

As we talk to our donor base, we find that many of you are intrigued by the possibility and have good questions about the different ways in which you can designate the Humboldt Library Foundation in your will and or estate plans.  Your planning now will make a meaningful difference in our community for generations to come.

Our very ambitious long-term goal of building the HLF Endowment Fund to $2.5 million would provide an annual grant of $100,000 in perpetuity to the library – it will help the library meet the changing needs of the community, the unique challenges of the digital age, enhance programs and buy books and materials.

Here are a few of the ways in which you can include HLF in your planned giving:

·         Specify a percentage of your estate to go to HLF

·         Leave a fixed amount in your will

·         Leave the remaining assets in your estate after all other bequests are fulfilled

·         Name HLF as a beneficiary (whole or partial) on your IRA

·         Designate HLF as a beneficiary on shares of stock

If you would like to learn more, please contact us at (707) 269-1991.  You can also contact your advisors (financial planner, attorney and accountant) for help in establishing a charitable gift.

Please let us know if you have already made a planned gift to the Humboldt Library Foundation in your estate plan or let us know when you have completed the process for 2011.  We look forward to adding your name to the HLF Legacy Circle.

2011 Humboldt Library Foundation Grants

All of Humboldt County’s libraries and patrons will benefit from $28,500 in grants recently awarded to the Humboldt County Library from the Humboldt Library Foundation.

  • $20,000 to the Humboldt County Library to restore and add to the collection
  • $1,500 to the Humboldt County Library for the Summer Reading Program
  • $5,000 to the HLF Endowment Fund to make sure that HLF will continue its support of the public library and its services now and in the future.
  • $2,000 to the Trinidad Library Fund to rebuild the branch

As always these grants were made possible by the generosity and support of our donors.  Everyone who supported the 2010 Gala honoring Helen Everett Award Winners Michele McKeegan and Ed Olsgard whether by attending, becoming a sponsor or donating items for the silent and live auctions deserves our special gratitude.  HLF also thanks our Board of Sponsors, participants in the Buy A Book Campaign and all of the individuals and organizations who support and sustain the foundation and its mission.

Since it was formed in 1996, the Foundation has contributed almost $600,000 to the library system.

“Each year, the Humboldt Library Foundation makes grants to the county library system to put more books on the shelves, improve programs and services in all of the branches.  We raise funds throughout the year and appreciate the generous response from supporters and patrons of the library,” said HLF President, Elizabeth Murguia.

“The public library system is profoundly important – and particularly in today’s tough economy, our libraries offer resources to help people find jobs and learn new skills.  Families, parents, seniors and kids find entertainment and information, access the public internet stations, and come to find their place in the community.  You only need to visit a branch on any given day and you will witness their value,” she added.
